1) Make pathways to explore locomotor movements in. (ex: straight line, or curvey snake)
2) Leap over them, of course
3) Weaving (with a little prep and practice, I think 3 year olds could do it!)
4) Ice cream cones!
5) Funny shoes...
6) Microphones (I like to sing yeah... yeah... yeah!)
7) Very tall shape statues, use it as the base.
What about you? Do you use cones in your classes? I would love to hear your creative ideas!
So perfect! I am heading to Target! You are a wealth of knowledge. And I do love the new layout.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) Do you ever use these?
ReplyDeleteWe have them in rainbow colors. I use them for pre-ballet through intermediate to do sautes turning in 1/4, 1/8 and 1/2 turns - jump to the red cone, jump to the blue cone. They love it and it's a great way to do those jumps before they have mastered numbering the corners of the room.
ReplyDeleteI also do "airplane runs" with my 8 yr old modern class: running in plie with a tilt towards the cone as you weave in and out of them. Younger kids would probably enjoy that but it's something I started with the modern class.
Love your blog!
Thanks Maggie! The modern "airplane runs" sound so fun! I will try it for sure. Thanks so much for your comment!
ReplyDeletei love the cones we use in our space--and yes, the three year olds can figure out the weaving, it just takes some of them a few more tries than others :)
