Dizzy Feet-- To improve, support, and increase access to Dance Education

This foundation was presented last night on So You Think You Can Dance....

http://www.dizzyfeetfoundation.org/

What a great way to help kids experience dance in a positive environment. The foundation also has created an accreditation program for dance education in studios and schools, which is incredibly needed.

Check it out...

  1. hey Maria -
you know I am always half behind on watching those episodes... I saw it and had mixed feelings... on the one hand, I was excited and thrilled that the money and publicity that will go into this foundation will make people much more aware, almost instantly, about quality dance education.. but my doubts include... who is making these decisions? At NDEO, Elsa Posey runs the RDE which is a certification for private dance educators and it's intense... what will the Dizzy Feet qualifications be? also, the celebrity endorsements are interesting, but Miley Cyrus is not exactly a professional dancer. I guess I am concerned as SYTYCD people never demonstrate their credentials - dancers become choreographers become teachers... that's the old model... are they going to provide teacher training? I guess that's my question... and I worry about RDE folks taking a backseat.

  2. I totally agree with you on the teacher training... I am just always happy when children get the opportunity to experience dance who wouldn't normally get the chance. That is really the part of the foundation I found the most moving.
